today is big.
as you may already know, I’ve been working with the gifted, fiercely authentic @SHIRTNYC for about 4 or 5 years now. people recognize him from the Flume record, an end credits song in Silicon Valley, or Internet stunts like faking NYT articles (which in turn garnered an actual NPR feature). and to my fiancé / close friends, they probably know him best from the countless demos I’m always playing, asking for thoughts & feedback.
whoever it is, invariably, the questions always come… “who is he? how can I look him up? where can I hear more?” (his name is frustratingly anti-SEO ‘Shirt’, after all), “does he have an album on spotify?” etc etc. for years he’s been keeping his soundcloud/bandcamp/blog/socials ablaze with frequent doses of dope (free) content. but these projects (in general) have samples, freestyles, audio clips, and in general a very DIY approach - “official” releases have been scarse. UNTIL NOW. yes, yes THERE IS NOW AN OFFICIAL RELEASE 😁
this process has been a true labor of love… lots of time, $$ and heated debates. but I think we’ve finally achieved what we set out to do: create an EP unlike anything he’s done before. complete w/ guest features, producer agreements, sample clearances, professional mixing/mastering… yet still maintaining Shirt’s underlying creative aesthetic. thank you to everyone who’s been involved in the process. truly.
our only hope is you take a listen and feel a connection with the music - we feel like there’s a track in here for everyone :)
